What does the acronym ARCADE stand for?
ARCADE stands for 'Academic Research Computing Advanced facilities Discussion group Europe'. It is derived from Latin, and commonly refers to "a covered area or passage in which there are shops, or a covered passage joined to a building on one side and with columns and arches along the other side" (Cambridge International Dictionary of English). It is symbolical of bridging the community gap and providing a place where people can gather to talk about High Performance Computing and advanced academic facilities.

Can I join ARCADE?
Yes, there is a procedure for applying for ARCADE membership. First check if you qualify according to the bylaws. The ARCADE Secretariat shall inform all current members of such an application. If within three weeks after the notification to the members nobody objects, the membership is considered granted and you will be notified. Otherwise the issue will be discussed in the annual General Meeting and the application will be voted on. The membership application will be approved if a normal majority favours the application.

If I join ARCADE, would it be expensive?
No. ARCADE membership will cost you nothing. The secretariat and the maintenance of the website are currently provided courtesy of NCF/NWO. Other costs, such as travelling expenses for attending meetings, are paid for by members themselves.
If you have other questions, we will be glad to answer them for you. Please send an email to: info@arcade-eu.org or contact the secretariat.
